With more than 2,200 members, the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association Ltd (AACMA) is the leading association of qualified acupuncture and Chinese medicine practitioners in Australia. Since 1973, AACMA has represented the profession and values high standards in ethical and professional practice.
In 2012, the Chinese medicine profession joined the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the Health Professions. This is the same scheme that regulates medical practitioners, physiotherapists, chiropractors, dentists, nurses and midwives etc. Chinese medicine practitioners must now be registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA) in order to offer acupuncture and Chinese medicine services to the public.
What is Chinese medicine?
The origins of Chinese medicine in China can be traced back at least 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest health care systems in the world. The practice of Chinese medicine has become a natural and holistic system of primary health care that is being used to treat people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.
